What gives our country its mild and gentle climate is the North Atlantic Drift. This gentle movement of warm water flows out of the Gulf Stream at the point where the Gulf Stream turns South. It weaves around the West Coast of Ireland and Scotland producing warm but wet weather. If it didn’t we would be covered in an ice sheet. After leaving us, it gives in to the Arctic cold, the water gets dense and heavy. Then it sinks and turns underwater into a cold Southerly current.
Autumn weather in Scotland, October, November, December
The Autumn is a stunning place on the West coast mainly for the colours. Everything is red and brown. The most wonderful thing is the lack of traffic, and most places are still open until Hogmanay at the Year End. Hogmanay gets booked up for self catering long in advance
