If you are looking for a self catering holiday in Scotland…..
Many people visit Scotland to stay with friends and decide to have a few days off in the Highlands. If you want a short holiday in the off-season - November to April - you should have no difficulty in finding self catering cottages. Most holiday cottages are offered throughout the year.

But in the Summer months, particularly during the school holidays, most holiday cottages are offered only for weekly rentals. So, if you’ve left it late to book, then you’ll need to find a complex with five or more properties - these often are open just for a few days. Look for chalet complexes.

You’ll have difficulty finding good properties during the school half term holidays even in the off season unless you book a couple of months in advance.

Finding a self catering holiday cottage in Scotland with late availability..…
There are a number of  holiday directories which make a point of offering vacancies at the last minute. But you can’t rely on these being vacant even if they say they are. The problem is that cottage owners do not keep their vacancies up to date on these sites. Also, many of them do not run their own web sites, so they rely on an outside service to update the website – this is time consuming and quite expensive. You need to contact the owners direct. We change our own cottage web site the moment we confirm a booking.

How to find your self catering Scottish holiday cottage on the internet.....
GOOGLE’s FRONT PAGES ARE ALWAYS FULL OF BOOKING SERVICES, NOT OWNERS SITES. SHOULD YOU BOOK THROUGH A BOOKING SERVICE? NO
Never buy from a booking service, you will always be paying over the odds, compared to booking direct. They charge the owner a booking fee, and this is often loaded on to the price. This is what VisitScotland the national tourist agency does.
However some of these pages are directories which owners pay to go on. They will give you access to the owners’ websites.
HERE IS THE BEST WAY TO FIND OWNERS’ OWN SITES. FEW PEOPLE KNOW THIS
Go to Google search and click on MAPS at the top left. Enter SELF CATERING IN ...and the location you want, or HOLIDAY COTTAGES IN ... and the location.
Eg SELF CATERING IN GLENCOE or COTTAGES IN GLENCOE
A list will come up showing the name, address, telephone number, location map AND REVIEWS by customers.
The list is not comprehensive but it will include the best organised premises who have put themselves on to Google Maps. Some may lie outside your chosen area, though
